DISCOVER THE HIDDEN BENEFITS OF COFFEE, YOUR HEALTH ALLY

After water and tea, coffee is the most consumed beverage in the world, with 2.25 billion cups enjoyed every single day. Coffee has become an integral part of our daily lives, and its market continues to grow, expected to exceed $155 billion by 2026. Beyond its unique taste, coffee also provides remarkable health benefits — and science confirms it.

It Boosts Your Mood

According to a recent study published in Nature, drinking coffee (or any other caffeinated beverage) in the morning can make us feel happier. Researchers from Bielefeld University (Germany) and Warwick University (UK) believe this mood-enhancing effect is linked to caffeine’s ability to block adenosine receptors — a molecule that promotes sleepiness. In doing so, coffee increases dopamine activity, the “pleasure hormone,” in the brain, enhancing both energy and positivity.

It Helps You Live Longer

Drinking three cups of coffee per day has been associated with a reduced risk of death from circulatory and digestive diseases, according to a European study in 2017. The benefits also apply to decaffeinated coffee, suggesting that antioxidants — abundant in coffee — play a key role. A 2022 UK study confirmed this link, showing nearly a one-third reduction in mortality among people drinking two to three cups of ground coffee per day.

It Protects the Liver

In 2021, researchers from the Universities of Southampton and Edinburgh (UK) discovered that regular coffee drinkers had a 21% lower risk of developing chronic liver disease (fibrosis, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease). Even more striking, the risk of dying from liver disease was cut in half among coffee drinkers compared to non-drinkers.

It Helps Prevent Type 2 Diabetes

Numerous studies show that regular coffee consumption is linked to a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Research published in Diabetologia found that drinking at least three cups of coffee — even decaf — reduces this risk by 42%. Coffee is rich in antioxidants, chlorogenic acid, magnesium, and potassium, all of which help regulate blood sugar levels by slowing down glucose absorption. Note: in people already diagnosed with diabetes, excessive coffee may sometimes increase blood sugar levels.

It Reduces the Risk of Alzheimer’s

For over a decade, scientists have studied the link between coffee and neurodegenerative diseases. In 2018, Canadian researchers discovered that phenylindanes, compounds formed during the roasting of coffee beans, can inhibit the formation of abnormal plaques of beta-amyloid and tau proteins in the brain. These plaques are associated with cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.
